Compact sugar snap peas
Fabaceae · Direct sow · compact garden planning guide
| Bed spacing | 6 × 6 in (152.4 × 152.4 mm) |
|---|---|
| Minimum sun used | 6 hours per day |
| Root depth used | 250 mm (9.8 in) |
| Container volume used | 20 L |
| Spring preparation | -35 to -21 days from your last frost |
| Maturity estimate | 55–70 days from sowing |
Square-bed spacing, root-space and sun thresholds, spring offsets, germination check ranges, harvest occupancy and clearance days are selected planning settings. They are not universal cultivar rules or a guaranteed harvest schedule. Packet, nursery and local guidance take precedence. For direct sowing, this plan selects one large seed per target position plus the chosen spare-seed allowance. Follow the cultivar packet if it calls for a different sowing method or thinning rate; a seedling start requires no sowing seed.
Before planting
Use edible sugar snap pea seed, not ornamental sweet peas; sow into cool workable soil.
Establish
Install short supports before tendrils develop; thin failed or crowded positions.
Tend and harvest
Guide stems toward the support and inspect pods as they fill; hot weather can end production. Pick plump but still tender whole pods; remove finished vines before reusing the space.

Peas are a cool-season crop sown into workable soil. Choose edible sugar snap peas; harvest tender pods. Our compact support spacing is a planning choice.

Sun exposure, drainage, growing media and crop-specific minimum volumes; our thresholds are conservative planning settings.

Maturity is a cultivar-dependent estimate; our extra 14-day fall buffer is an explicit planning assumption.
