Small round radishes
Brassicaceae · Direct sow · compact garden planning guide
| Bed spacing | 3 × 3 in (76.2 × 76.2 mm) |
|---|---|
| Minimum sun used | 4 hours per day |
| Root depth used | 150 mm (5.9 in) |
| Container volume used | 3 L |
| Spring preparation | -28 to -14 days from your last frost |
| Maturity estimate | 25–35 days from sowing |
Square bed spacing, root-space thresholds, relative spring offsets and seed quantities are selected planning parameters, not universal cultivar rules. Maturity ranges are planning estimates; follow your packet or nursery label.
Before planting
Use a small round spring variety, not daikon; avoid sustained hot weather.
Establish
Thin early after emergence; a crowded root will not size well.
Tend and harvest
Check swelling roots; maintain even moisture and clear any spent batch before re-sowing. Pull one sample root at edible size; remove woody or flowering plants before another batch.
Plans using this crop
4×8 spring salad bed
A salad bed with full-size lettuce and up to three successive radish batches.
4×8 root crop bed
A deep, loose root bed with short carrots, small beets and round radishes.
4×8 four-family rotation starter
Four numbered zones represent four botanical families for next-year planning.
4×8 no indoor seed starting
All direct-sown crops with no trays, lamps or indoor seedling steps.
4×8 narrow-side access review
A one-side access layout that exposes the reach problem before you plant.

Small round radishes need thinning; our 3-inch cells exclude large daikon varieties.

Sun exposure, drainage, growing media and crop-specific minimum volumes; our thresholds are conservative planning settings.

Cool and warm season establishment; weather and soil readiness matter. Minnesota month dates are not used as global dates.

Maturity is a cultivar-dependent estimate; our extra 14-day fall buffer is an explicit planning assumption.
