Square-bed spacing, root-space and sun thresholds, spring offsets, germination check ranges, harvest occupancy and clearance days are selected planning settings. They are not universal cultivar rules or a guaranteed harvest schedule. Packet, nursery and local guidance take precedence. For direct sowing, this plan selects one large seed per target position plus the chosen spare-seed allowance. Follow the cultivar packet if it calls for a different sowing method or thinning rate; a seedling start requires no sowing seed.
Before planting
Choose a compact bush cultivar; direct sow after frost when soil at one inch is at least 70°F (21°C).
Establish
Keep the root area moist and leave room around the low support for short vines.
Tend and harvest
Check the cultivar pollination label; remove insect covers at flowering if bees are needed. Pick fruit before it becomes oversized; lift fruit without pulling the vine.
Plans using this crop
Small containers · 6+ hours sun
A bush cucumber pot with a flowering check
Direct sow a warm-soil cucumber, then use its pollination label to decide when covers must come off.

Bush cucumbers fit small gardens. Direct sow after frost into soil at least 70°F at one inch depth. Seedless types differ in pollination needs; remove insect covers at flowering for bee-pollinated types.

Maturity is a cultivar-dependent estimate; our extra 14-day fall buffer is an explicit planning assumption.
